What Data Syncs From Shopify (and What Doesn't)
Both the automatic webhook sync and the manual "Sync Products" run update the same set of fields on a product, pulling directly from Shopify:
- Product title
- Description
- Price
- SKU
- Stock/quantity and stock status (in stock, out of stock, backorder, etc.)
- Product status (active/archived - a product deleted in Shopify is archived in Trove, not permanently erased)
- Main product image and full image gallery (including videos)
- Variants and options (sizes, colors, and their individual price/SKU/stock)
- Category and collection assignments
- Tax and shipping settings synced from your Shopify product setup
If a product is deleted in Shopify, it isn't deleted from Trove - it's set to an archived/trashed status, so historical orders referencing it remain intact.
What triggers a sync
Shopify sends Trove an update whenever you:
- Create, edit, or delete a product
- Change stock/inventory on a product
- Update a collection
A general rule of thumb: any change you make in Shopify to a product will sync to Trove. The reverse is not automatically true.
One setting that is protected from sync
If you reclassify a product's type in Trove (for example, marking a product as an Add-on rather than a standard product), that classification is preserved. Neither the automatic sync nor a manual "Sync Products" run will overwrite it back to Shopify's default product type. This is currently the only field with this protection - everything else listed above is refreshed from Shopify on every sync.
